Dir. Lula Buarque de Hollanda, 2000; 82 mins | French-born photographer Pierre Verger lived in Salvador, Bahia from 1946 until his death in 1996. Narrated by Gilberto Gil, this documentary features the artist’s final interview, focusing on his involvement with the city’s Candomblé community and his travels to learn of the deep cultural, social, and religious connections between Africa and Brazil.
